Taking a trip to your dream destination doesn't have to mean putting your fitness goals on pause when you follow these tips for working out on vacation.

Fitness First: Tips for Working Out on Vacation

How many times have you actually worked out on vacation?

If you’re anything like us, you pack 4 workout outfits for the 5 days you’ll be on vacation. If you want to work out on that last day, you can just rewear an outfit. But then the inevitable happens, and you don’t actually make it to the gym more than once in those 5 days.

Working out on vacation can be one of the most difficult things to do, but with the right mindset and goals, you can make it a reality! Follow these tips for how to work out on vacation!

Take a Hike

If you are going out somewhere where the service is spotty and civilization is also spotty, then why not take a hike?

Look up where you are going and see if there are any hiking trails in the area. This can make you do something fun while on vacation but still allows you to sneak a workout in.

Be Adventurous

Depending on where you are going, there may be a lot of outdoor activities you can get involved in.

If there is water nearby, check to see if there are any paddle board or kayaking rentals. Mountains? See if there is a bike rental place so that you can try out mountain biking.

Getting out of your comfort zone to try a different type of workout can still count as working out on vacation!

Pack Equipment in Your Bag

If you know you are going on a vacation that doesn’t really have a spot for a gym, you can pack your own equipment in your bag. Now you know how to work out on vacation without a gym!

Bring a yoga mat, a resistance band, and ankle weights. These are all lightweight items that can be put in your bag for vacation, but are just as good to help you get in a workout!

Use an App

If you don’t think you’ll have access to a gym, you can also do an “at-home workout” in your hotel room. If you use workout apps, you can select a video that only involves body weight. You can also select a video that works with your timing, usually anywhere from 10 minutes to 90 minutes!

This is a great way to motivate yourself to not have an excuse to work out!

Stay Close to a Gym

If you have the option to stay wherever you choose on your vacation, you can try to stay near a gym, so you can head there in the morning and then go back to your hotel to shower!
